Easy fast/detox with food

Hello friends,

I am back from vacation and putting together ingredients for the Ayurvedic detox. It brings healing to the gut/digestion. It is traditional fasting food. While those things don’t seem to go together they do. This fast is from everything except this dish. It has tremendous healing abilities and is used extensively in ayurvedic healing. I’m including the recipe so you can get the recipe ingredients and join me if you choose.

In Ayurveda the vata element is the dosha that most commonly causes disease. This fast puts vata back into balance.

This dish is used during times of spiritual practices. It is considered a Sattvic food -one that will help bring pure thoughts.

The yellow Dahl is hard to come by locally -I have ordered mine online. Also if you are local I just went to Harvest Time to get the black mustard seeds. They only had one bottle so I had her break it down for those of you who are going to go in looking for that and she will order more. Also my Hannaford on the east side does not have ginger until tomorrow morning.

As an aside if you aren’t buying your herbs bulk from your local co-op or health food store you are paying ten times more. For optimum medicinal benefits just buy what you need as you need it. Herbs are delicate and need to be kept super fresh for best results. So especially for this dish use as fresh as possible.

This cleanse helps to detoxify the fat sells. It also helps burn fat safely by still feeding your body. This way your body doesn’t go into starvation mode and hold onto the fat.



1 cup split yellow mung dahl beans*

¼ – ½ cup long grain white or white basmati rice

1 tbsp fresh ginger root

1 tsp each: black mustard seeds, cumin, and turmeric powder

½ tsp each: coriander powder, fennel and fenugreek seeds

3 cloves

3 bay leaves

7-10 cup water

½ tsp salt (rock salt is best)

1 small handful chopped fresh cilantro leaves

Rinse beans and rice. Add to pot. Add all spices except cilantro. Add filtered water. Boil for 10 min turn down to low, cover and cook for 15-20 min more. Top with fresh cilantro

Consume for 3-5 Days or more. Use regularly.

Can add steamed vegetables or lean meat when not cleansing, or for extra blood sugar support during a cleanse.
